This was a wonderful way to learn about many of the technologies. I would have never!! tweeted or screencasted had it not been for this program. Thank you for offering this to us. Actually, once I did it, the screencasting was pretty fun! Facebook is my favorite, though. What a way to reconnect was friends from long ago.

Week 12: Screencasting

As I type I am creating a screencast of me editing a blog post I created while I was at work. I thought I had saved it, apparently not, so I am trying again. I think this is a useful tool, especially if you are trying to teach somebody something. Our library has done several screencasts to show patrons how to use our catalog and how to register for the summer reading progam. All done. Now I am going publish and view my post.

Week 15: Wikis

I am leary of wikis as anyone can post to them. I will say, though, that when I am looking for the order of a series of books I do tend to gravitate toward a wiki. That information is easy to find.

I never did find a wiki I wanted to add to or fix, but I did create one for the 23Things Kansas. Our library has wikis, but I never use them. I suppose I could trust that information as it staff created.

Week 8: Cloud Computing

Yes, week 8. I finally decided what I wanted to do. I have book lists in a couple of places. I wanted to create a document that had a list of all of them with hyperlinks. I learned that you cannot hyperlink in Googledocs which is kind of a bummer. I can send updates which is good, but doesn’t help if I want individuals to send me lists and add a hyperlink.

If I was working on a project with someone not at my library, I think this would be a good thing to use.

TSCPL Bookworms Rock!

The TSCPL Bookworms, the Transfigurers and three other library teams have been taking part in the 8 week Walk Kansas fitness challenge. Our goal is to “walk” across Kansas through exercise – all 423 miles.

The TSCPL Bookworms made it across Kansas last week. We are now in Colorado. We are finishing up week six. Part of the challenge is to eat healthier, too. As a team we have eaten 657 cup of fruits and vegetables. As a department, for the past couple of Thursdays we have brought in healthy food to eat. We usually go our separate ways for lunch, so this is a nice healthy way to hang out together.

I have a map posted on the outside of my cubicle tracking the Bookworms journey.

Week 14: Library Thing, Etc.

I used Animoto to create my slide show. It is unbelievably easy to use. What a wonderful tool to use to create an awesome gift for someone. Here is Gracie’s video – Gracie at Play.

Week 10: Video on the Web Part 1

I am a frequent viewer of YouTube. It’s amazing what people post. Anybody who works with me knows that I am a HUGE fan of The Office. My two favorite characters are Jim and Pam. Some talented individual created a video of Jim and Pam to one of my favorite songs, “Love Story” by Taylor Swift. Here it is -

Week 9: Instant Messaging

It’s a good thing we don’t have to do these in order. I am still working on week 8.

I first instant messaged years ago with AOL. I reconnected with a college friend via instant messaging. I like instant messaging more than I like tweeting. We have Trillian on our computers at work, although I think I have only instant messaged one person. Usually I don’t need an instant answer, so e-mail works for me. I chat on occasion on Facebook. I think IMing is great if you need a quick answer and can’t really (or don’t want to) step away from your desk.

Week 7: Microblogging

I never thought I would be a “tweeter”. Right now I am not a very good one. I have only “tweeted” a handful of times. I do not have it set up so I can use my cell phone. I do not have unlimited texting on my cell phone – my guess is that I would be charged for anything I sent. Something to look into.

I think it is easy to follow people. Most of the people I would want to follow are on Facebook, though.

Who am I following? I am following seven people or groups. Here’s four of them – Labette Community College, Heather Braum, David King, and Library of Congress. I am mainly following some of them because they followed me first. I am following the Library of Congress just for fun.

I don’t see myself as a regular user of Twitter. I barely use it now for 23 Things Kansas. I did learn one thing so far – there are some people at Labette Community College that will be participating in Walk Kansas next week. The Topeka & Shawnee Public Library has several team participating in the program. My team is the TSCPL Bookworms.
